A small group of concerned local residents took Sunshine Coast Council to court after it approved a service station and 2 fast food outlets on residential zoned land on David Low Way, Mudjimba.
It took almost three years and cost approximately $80,000 to fight the case against the development. As the approved area was less than one third of the total land involved, the group was concerned that the rest would become commercial or industrial.
Local Coolum solicitor, Ray Barber worked pro bono for the group, which, without his help and guidance, the case would not have got to court. Ray arranged the barristers, town planning, lighting and noise experts.
The group arranged many fund raising activities including numerous raffles and were fortunate to receive some donations towards the cause, but no the court battle has concluded, there is still a shortfall of almost $20,000 outstanding.
THE GROUP NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT
Now the court battle has been fought and won, we need people and local businesses (particulate those which stand to benefit through this development not going ahead), to help us pay the legal costs involved.
