Meet the new MRA committee
A new committee was selected at our recent AGM in June. The members are:
Troy Grant, President. Troy has been a member of the Mudjimba community since 2016, living here permanently with his wife Toni since 2020. He’s had an extensive public service career of over 35 years working at local, state and federal government levels. Serving 22 years in the Police Force and heavily involved in the communities, he’s a passionate fighter for fairness and equity and a proud Mudjimba resident. Troy feels privileged to help Mudjimba maintain its beautiful assets and advocate for solutions to issues of concern to the community.
Charles Toms, Vice President. Charles is a retired Chartered Accountant and Fellow Certified Management Accountant. He has lived at North Beach Place for 20 years, and been on the coast for 25 years. Charles has a long history of service to our coastal community, being the treasurer of OSCAR for many years, and the MRA treasurer for the past 6 years. We are grateful that Charles is now filling the role of Vice President, to provide some continuity to our committee.
Carly Wallwork, Secretary. Carly has lived in Mudjimba since 2003, and has a great love for this community. This has led her to take on the role of secretary while homeschooling her 11 and 13 year old sons and running after her 19 month old toddler! Carly also co-manages her family stone masonry business while organising homeschooling and health food co-ops and groups. Carly’s background includes managing cafes and kitchens, massage therapies and natural medicine clinics, as well as project management and drafting for a prominent electrical engineering firm.
Glenn Daye, Treasurer. Glenn bought in Mudjimba in 2016 and moved here permanently 2 years ago. He has worked extensively in banking, lending, finance and mortgage broking as well as with Qld Health as Central District Services and Maintenance Manager. More recently, Glenn has been self-employed in Business Management, including bookkeeping, for a number of Brisbane businesses. Glenn loves Mudjimba and wants to be a part of MRA to assist with local issues and to see the community prosper and to give it a voice in the future of the area.
Lynn Preece, Community & Members Engagement Liaison. Lynn has lived on the sunny coast for over 15 years, and made the move from bush to beach 6 years ago. Lynn and her family were drawn to this area for its outstanding natural beauty, and the vibrant village atmosphere. Her background is in health and wellness, and she worked in economic development and the dotcom space prior to moving to the coast. Her goals in this new role are to serve our local community by engaging more with our existing MRA membership; to expand our membership; and to increase the relevance of the organisation in the broader community.
Martin Peelgrane, Aviation Officer. Martin is a retired civil engineer who has lived in Mudjimba for over 10 years. He has stepped down from the role of President of the MRA after 7 years but will remain a committee member focused on the impact of the Sunshine Coast Airport on Mudjimba, including the Class Action for compensation for those residences adversely impacted by the alignment of runway 1331.
Kathryn Hyman, Hall Co-ordinator. Kathryn grew up on the Sunshine Coast in the Northshore area and she and her family have been involved with surf life saving for 100 years combined! Kathryn is a busy mum of two, an activist, President of a community association (TWWS INC) and has held an executive role with the peak residents association OSCAR INC for some 8 years. Passionate about the public good, Kathryn now works in the affordable housing space. Kathryn is a people person, an organiser, and thoroughly enjoys her role facilitating the community in their various endeavours requiring a community space to do so.
The committee wishes to thank the outgoing committee members for their enormous contribution to our community.
