Good turnout at the last Mudjimba Residents’ Association meeting with very heated discussions. The raised matters included Solar Farm Project, Flood Management, Helicopter Noise, Shell Express Service Station, Pratt Surfing World, Airport Expansion and Development at 91 Mudjimba Beach Road.

We were very fortunate to have Cr Jason O’Pray attending as well as a local Editor from the Coolum Advertiser Richard Bruinsma.

The first part of the meeting finished around 9pm. The committee continued for another hour with the general business.

The MRA meetings are held the FIRST Tuesday of every second month @ 7.00pm in the Association’s Community Hall located at 41 Cottonwood Street Mudjimba.

Noisy and disobedient pilots get no penalty – By Richard Bruinsma

Helicopter pilots who are flaunting the Sunshine Coast Airport’s Fly Neighbourly Policy, causing almost constant unlivable noise for nearby Marcoola residents, are unlikely to receive even a slap on the wrist for their breaches.

Marcoola residents near the airport have raised concerns about helicopter noise that often starts early in the morning and doesn’t end until after 10pm, making their lives a misery and their homes “unlivable”.

The issue was discussed at the monthly meeting of the Mudjimba Residents Association on Monday night with attendees and local division 8 Councillor Jason OPray. It’s also likely to become an even bigger problem as the airport progresses towards its $400m runway expansions.

Division 8 Councillor Jason OPray has responded to concerns that his friendship and financial ties to a developer behind a proposed new service station meant residents had no representation at the meeting that voted to approve the project.

Cr OPray told attendees at the Mudjimba Residents’ Association meeting that he was a personal friend of the proponent – in this case well-known developer Mal Pratt – of the service station development proposed on David Low Way, just east of the airport.

“The applicant of surfing world (the formal name of the project) has been a family friend and a close personal contact of mine for 30 plus years, through the Maroochydore Surf Lifesaving Club, and I’ve made that very clear all the way along including the previous term in council,” Cr OPray said.
